Pathways to Resilience

WHAT DO WE MEAN BY RESILIENCE?

PTR 4 Pillars of Resilience

Resilience is defined as ‘the capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties’ - this can be physical, mental, emotional or social.

What does resilience look like? Someone who is resilient has good self-awareness, they are able to notice when their body is sending stress signals and can implement tools and strategies to bring about calm in moments of challenge and raise energy when feeling low. This means they are able to rely on themselves to move between different states and, in turn, change their emotions and behaviours depending on the situation they find themselves in. This can be done through navigating the nervous system and returning to a sense of balance. Someone who is resilient also has good self-expression, is able to verbalise how they are feeling and confidently ask for help when needed.

  • Balance - regulating the nervous system through breathing practices

  • Self-Belief - identifying strengths and building confidence

  • Optimism - using positive-psychology tools in daily life

  • Perseverance - understanding the importance of rest whilst not giving up

The Junior and Senior Programmes are specifically designed to be in-person and without the

use of tech. This creates a deeper group connection, builds mutual respect amongst peers

and gives participants time and space to think, contribute and to be heard.

WHAT IS PATHWAYS TO RESILIENCE?

Pathways to Resilience is an innovative and exciting programme for 6 to 16 year olds: Junior programme for 6-10 year olds and Senior programme for 11-16 year olds.

The programme's foundations lie within a unique combination of psychoeducation and physiology; drawing on positive-psychology, the latest science on the nervous system as well as the mind-body connection. The programme explores evidence-based tools and strategies to expand key skills that are fundamental for children and adolescents to build resilience and thrive as they navigate their way through the ups and downs of life into adulthood.

Sessions use fun and engaging, age-relevant, with activities to support learning and develop skills necessary to build what we believe are at the core of resilience: Balance, Self-Belief, Optimism and Perseverance.

ABOUT THE EDUCATION & PROGRAMME

Founded in 2021 in the UK, Pathways to Resilience (www.pathways-to-resilience.co.uk/) is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company that delivers resilience programmes to children and workshops to adults.

Programmes also include a 90 minute workshop for Parents and Carers, looking at how they can best support their children and themselves. Feedback and evidence shows the programmes and workshops are making a positive impact on children, families and wider communities.

Sessions use fun and engaging, age-relevant, with activities to support learning and develop skills necessary to build what we believe are at the core of resilience: Balance, Self-Belief, Optimism and Perseverance.

The programme explores the meaning of resilience before going on to noticing and naming emotions, learning about the invaluable connection between emotions and behaviours and understanding how the brain and the body communicate through the nervous system. For example, children look at the benefits of what brings them joy, the positive impact of gratitude on the brain and body, and learn key skills needed to confidently ask for help.

Through games, creative activities, discussions and breathing practices the children build a comprehensive toolkit for resilience. Using what they have learnt over the programme, they will make their own ‘Soothe box’ to take home with them to use whenever they need a reminder of the tools for resilience.

“My daughter benefitted hugely from the programme - she has become extremely good at identifying when a situation might become too much, so not just when it is already overwhelming, and has developed excellent techniques to address it. She can articulate her feelings beautifully, both positive and negative, and why she is feeling them. When she is happy, she is adept at spreading that joy; and when she is not quite so happy she knows things that she can do to deal with. Both her and our entire family have found your course very useful and we are so appreciative of it!”

ABOUT PETRA

My name is Petra Peyer, and I’m both a passionate facilitator of personal transformation and a devoted mother of two teenagers (both students at OBS). I’ve been on the path of self-development and holistic healing since 2014, guided by a deep commitment to helping others reconnect with their inner strength, joy, and peace. Professionally, I’m a certified breathwork facilitator, energy worker, and founder of Breath of My Life, where I offer breath-based and emotional well-being practices for both adults and children. My journey began with a background in early childhood education - I studied to be a kindergarten teacher and hold a kids' yoga teacher certification. Over the years, I’ve blended my love for teaching with extensive training in trauma-informed resilience work.

With certifications in Pathways to Resilience and Seeds of Happiness, I’ve studied and designed a gentle, playful, and empowering program that supports children in building emotional regulation, confidence, and inner calm. Through movement, breath, mindfulness, and creative expression, the children will learn tools they can carry with them through life - especially during times of stress or change.

It’s a joy and honour to bring this work into the school space, and I’m looking forward to supporting your children in discovering the strength and spark that already lives within them.
